ARTICLE 1. CITY ELECTIONS

6-101 Conduct of election.​

The election of city officials shall be conducted in all respects as provided by the laws of Kansas governing the holding of city elections.

6-102 Hours of voting.​

At all city elections the polls shall be open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., unless different hours are set and publicly am1ounced by the county election officer,

6-103 Primary elections.​

There shall be a primary election of the city officers on the first Tuesday in August, if, when, and in the manner set forth in K.S.A. 25-2108a, or otherwise as provided by the laws of the State of Kansas.

6-104 Governing body; composition, qualifications; terms and elections.​

(a)The governing body of the City shall consist of a Mayor and five (5) council members duly elected as provided by law.
(b)The Mayor and each council member shall be a qualified electors of the City and serve for a term of four (4) years or until their successors have been elected, qualified, and sworn in as provided by law.
(c)General elections shall take place on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday in November of each year for all governing body positions whose terms expire within the following year. Succeeding elections will be held on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday in November every two years for all governing body positions whose term will expire within the following year thereafter. A Mayor and two (2) council members shall be elected at one election, and the remaining three (3) council members shall be elected at the succeeding election.
(d)The terms of office for the Mayor and each council member shall commence as on a date established by resolution of the governing body on or after December 1 following the certification of the election and no later than the second Monday in January following certification of the election.

6-105 Candidacy.​

In accordance with K.S.A. 25-205, and amendments thereto, any person may become a candidate for city office elected at large by having had filed on their behalf, a nomination petition or a declaration of candidacy, accompanied by any fee required by law. The nomination petition must be signed by 25 qualified electors of the city or by a number of such qualified electors of the city equal to not less than 10% of the ballots cast at the last general city election, whichever is less.

6-106 Nonpartisan.​

All elections for the City of Kechi, Kansas shall be nonpartisan.
